Boozey Hand Sanitizer

Boozey Hand Sanitizer

With the regular stuff sold out everywhere, I naturally wanted to learn to make my own. Plus you never really know whats in any store bought stuff. So, in case of an apocalypse or something, maybe you just want to keep this recipe in your back pocket. Worst case, you’ve got some backup for super strong drinks in your future!

The stronger the alcohol, the more potent the elixir, but also the more it can dry up your skin. The World Health Org says to try to stay above 60% alcohol in the final blend, so MIN alcohol to start with is 120 proof (60%), and it only gets more dilute from there.

Honestly, it’s just really hard to find Everclear at all, let alone higher than 120, so just go with the highest proof alcohol you can find. The aloe helps moisturize and keep your skin soft!

I made a bunch of this, and gave away tiny bottles to my neighbors. (I got a beautiful baked mini loaf of bread in return). But the best part, even store clerks asked my one neighbor why she smelled so good, and it was because of the lemon and eucalyptus! (I was worried it’d smell like booze, but apparently we are good!)

Simple home recipe for 1 cup

  • 0.8 cup alcohol: I used Everclear 120, but the highest you can find.

    • Strongest options: Ethanol 190, Isopropyl (99.8%), or Everclear 190

  • 2 tsp Hydrogen peroxide (3%)

  • 0.6 tsp Glycerine

  • 1.7 Tbs Aloe juice (water is fine too, just not as good to your hands)

  • 5-20 drops Essential Oils, like tea tree, orange, lemon, eucalyptus and/or lavender

  • 5+ drops Vitamin E oil, for softness (totally optional)

PREP: Blend ingredients and pour into little spray bottles. Make a bit extra and hand out to your besties. Notes:

  • Ratios are based on WHO’s recipe, who also have not fully tested as Corona-Safe. The more alcohol, the more drying to your skin, but also more potent.

  • I only could find Ethanol 120 (60 proof), which makes adding any aloe makes the whole thing less than 60%, but I’m okay with that

  • For external use only!
