The Ra in TyRAnnasauRUs REx
Everywhere I look, I find more references to Ra.
Reading a book to my son, I kept running into it⌠TyRAnasauRUs REx. 3x in one name.
EoRAptor, a name that means âdawn stealerâ⌠because âRaâ is associated with the dawn, ie⌠the runrise.
Digging into this on my phone as my son fought sleepâŚ. I followed a thread from REx, to tyRAnny, to the EtRUscans, who called themselves the RAtians. The R- names associated with Ray continued.
As seen in my story on the Sun King, the story of Ray begins in ancient Egypt, where HoRUs, son of Isis, embodied the divine right of kingship as the original son of god. Each pharaoh (female or male) was considered the living HoRUs, the sun on the hoRIzon, bridging heaven and earth.
Variations of the name Ray, the Egyptian Sun God, can be found with literally every vowel, depicting its roundness of the sun, its royalty, its latin translations into Rex for king, and her RIght to RUle.
A: RAY, sunRAY, gRAnd, RAdiant, tyRAnt, tiaRA
E: REx, REign, gREat, REd
I: RIca, RIch, chRIst, KRIstos, RIng, RIghteous, LIght, LIfe (L&R often synonymous)
O: ROund, ROyal, ROjo, cROwn
U: RUler, RUby, LUck (L&R often synonymous)
Language itself preserved these connectionsâin the word "Rex" for king, in "ray" for sunbeam, in the very notion of "reignâ, we find traces of this connection. These linguistic fossils, buried in our everyday speech, reveal the enduring power of the sun-king archetype. This sound of royalty continued, though subtle, underneath anyoneâs comprehension.
Official etymology of the term âRaâ is literallyâŚ. âunknownâ. But our linguistic origins are swayed with biases, as depicted in the amazing series Black Athena. If you look to Africa, however, the term that connects the sun with kingship comes into clear focus.
Back to the dinosaurs. The original word "dinosauRIa", was created in 1842, preserving that Ri- sound, which supposedly comes from the Greek words deinos (meaning "fearfully great") and sauROs meaning "lizard".
Dino, meaning "fearfully great"
Similar words:
dain: as found in âor¡dainâ (to make someone a priest, holy)
Sauros, meaning "lizard".
Google gets interesting. Other people ask:
What is the meaning of Sauras?
1. a forest people of the mountains of the Eastern Ghats, India.
2. a member of the Saura people.
Who is the goddess of lizards?
Waka, in Hawaiian mythology, is a lizard goddess worshipped by female chiefs
What is the origin of Sauro?
Italian: from sauro 'sorrel' (color usually of a horse) used as a nickname for someone with light brown hair
does this mean âtanâ from the sun???? Ra is the sun god⌠and we are saying dark color skin, which, coinciding with the racism of CHampolionâs day, makes sense. it was the age of the slave trade.
What does saura mean?
wealth. The name Saura holds its origins in the Arabic language, where it carries the meaning of wealth. It is derived from the Arabic word saura, which refers to abundance and prosperity.
Other Dinosaur Names:

still donât see a connection?
saurischia: A division of dinosaurs that means "reptile-hipped".
It comes from the Greek words sauros + ischion ("hip joint"). Here, the term IS is associated with hips. (the mother goddess isis/ishtar/aset⌠and a great booty).
Great Lizard
Okay, so the word for dinosaurs has to do with something great, and a lizard. Letâs follow this thread.
The greek name for lizard is savRA or savROs (ĎÎąĎĎÎą), whose gender remains uncertain. Per wikipedia, this greek word âis thought to be deprived of any etymology.â
Wait, back up⌠âThought to be deprivedâ of an origin?
Deprived? as in stolen? In fact, this may really be the case! History has really tried to sway the meaning from Ra away from Egyptian kingship, from the connection of REx with sunRAy.
The lizardâs extraordinary ability to regenerate its tail may compell us to analyze the greek word (savRA) ĎιὝĎÎą as an ancient compound formed on *ĎÎą
(Îż)- (cf. ĎáżśĎ) and *Îżá˝ĎÎą, literally meaning the animal âwhose tail is kept safe.â
What did other ancient people think of lizards? Turns out Egypt has many species of lizards, including spiny-tailed lizards, geckos, and agamas. And they LOVED lizards. They associated them with snakes, and even mummified them by the thousands in some graves.
Lizards, like snakes and eels, were particularly associated with ancient Egyptian solar and creator gods such as Atum and perhaps, in the case of Naukratis, with Amun-Ra Shena.
The arabic word for lizard is sahalia, not so far from Shena.
EtRUscans, aka RAtians
In no particular order, I followed the thread to the EtRUscans, the ealy Italians.
I found that Champollion, the obsessed French genius that deciphered the ROsetta stone to unlock the Egyptian language, was also interested in the Etruscan/Egyptian connection, so I do not feel so far off.
âI'm busy with the Etruscans at the moment; language, medals, graven stones, monuments, sarcophagi, all of it is engraved in my head. Why? Because the Etruscans come from Egypt. Here's a conclusion that would cause these Greek and Latin powdered scholars to go through the roof."
Whether we can ever prove anyoneâs origins or not, we can say for certain that Etruscans, early Italian people, had major connections with Egyptian culture and trade. And the Etruscans brought the alphabet to the Romans. And the first alphabet was created by Jewish workers in Egyptian mines, copying from Egyptian hieroglyphs. (more on this in a separate article here.). It is not so far off to believe these early italians may have worshipped the same solar god as the great Egyptians to their south, and named some places after him/her.
Any kind of African connections were considered as practically a heresy during Champollionâs time, but he was never one to care too much about formality or upsetting the church or political schemes. He was following the data. Scholars STILL reveal a dark fear of seeing any connections of pure âwhiteâ Europeans with a dark skinned race, of ROme with AfRIca.
