Seed Cycling
SEED CYCLING IS A TECHNIQUE THAT HELPS YOUR BODY NATURALLY RE-BALANCE IT’S HORMONE LEVELS
Seed cycling is a gentle way to balance your hormones (mainly estrogen and progesterone). As a woman, your cycle has two phases: Follicular (first half, starting with first day of period) and luteal (second half). The seeds help boost estrogen production in the first phase, and progesterone in the second, which can help things like PMS, acne, fertility, or regulating cycles.
The seed hulls help bind up excess hormones, while the seed oils contain fatty acids that help produce hormones.
Follicular Phase (Days 1-14 of your cycle, estrogen dominant) 1 Tbs of each daily:
1 Tbsp of organic, raw FLAX seeds
1 Tbsp of organic, raw PUMPKIN seeds
Fish oil Supplement 1500mg EPA/DHA (this one works well)
To keep estrogen levels in balance, we cycle with flax seeds. If estrogen levels get too high, the lignans in the flax seeds can bind to the excess so it can be eliminated from the body. We also cycle with pumpkin seeds, which are high in zinc to support progesterone production in the next phase.
Luteal Phase (Days 15-28 of your cycle, shifting to progesterone production)
1 Tbsp of organic, raw SESAME seeds
1 Tbsp of organic, raw SUNFLOWER seeds
Primrose Oil 500mg (this one recommended)
This phase is brought on by a sudden drop in estrogen right after ovulation. Progesterone levels begin to steadily rise to build up the uterine lining. Estrogen also increases here to prepare for the menstrual cycle, but if estrogen gets too high PMS symptoms and painful periods can occur. Progesterone is also easily blocked by cortisol (stress hormone), since your body does not want you to be pregnant while stressed.
During this phase, we cycle with sesame seeds, which are high in zinc and selenium and block excess estrogen, all essential for hormone balance. We also cycle with sunflower seeds, which are high in vitamin E to support progesterone levels.
